Job Description:The CIT program is a very rewarding experience for young people who have the desire to explore being
a camp counselor but are not yet 21 years of age. Being a CIT is truly a “win win” relationship where young aspiring educators
can learn a valuable skill and insight into a significant career path while performing an important service for younger children
who will benefit from learning from their peers.
As a CIT, you are assigned to a counselor “mentor” and are “on” at the same times as your counselor.
You will learn about being a camp counselor by assisting staff with activities and helping with day to day living skills under
the direct supervision of your designated counselor. Your major role at camp is to be actively involved in all camp activities,
assisting counselors with their duties and acting as an enthusiastic, responsible role model for campers. We expect you to take
your job seriously, and to take the role of supervising adult with the campers, but the final word on issues comes from the
counselors and the head counselor. Upon successful completion, you will receive a Certificate of Completion.
Desired Qualifications:
Minimum age of 16
Ability and desire to work with children
Enthusiastic, responsible, patient, and good sense of humor
Good communication skills
Love of music, the outdoors, and interest in inspiring success in young people
Excellent listening and problem solving skills
Ability to accept guidance and supervision
Ability to demonstrate proper etiquette (behavior, safety, emergency procedures, cleanliness, etc.)
Willing to be in leadership roles with youth and work cooperatively
Commitment to camp policies agreement
Be able to volunteer for full camp session
Responsibilities:
The CIT's will be subject to the same code of behavior and policies as regular program staff and will participate in all aspects of camp life. Under supervision of the Counselor, the CIT will:
Provide a safe environment for campers and self
Act as a positive role model while serving as a big buddy for campers
Communicate with the “mentor” Counselor regularly and attend staff meetings
Assist in supervising cabin group throughout the day, including wake up, cabin clean-up, meals, rest hour, showers, activities, bedtime, etc.
Help to enforce camp safety regulations
Supervise cleaning and meals
Help provide a fun, safe and supportive atmosphere for campers
